Stratford Upon Avon Angling Association
Stannells
Classic Avon stretch, drive into the meadow and park at your swim !

The Stannells can be found at the start of Luddington road right by the racecourse, a single meadow of 15 swims with a right hand bend this popular piece of water starts at the old railway bridge and finishes at a small foot bridge which links the water with the residential Stannells close. The stretch is a nice piece of water where you can drive to your peg, fish from a comfortable platform and be away from the center of the town but still be reachable via the Greenway cycle / walking route which crosses stretch at the Stannells bridge so any family members who prefer to enjoy the town can stroll back to you when they are done.

Pegs 1 to 4 have a little bit more depth to them and benefit from slack bay on the far bank giving some waggler and feeder options before the river narrows slightly into consistent straight with plenty of reed to trot along over the far bank which is well within reach.

Peg 1 downstream from the bridge

Good access and comfortable fishing at the Stannells

The river starts to turn around peg 11 and peg 12 right on the bend has a nice bit of slack on the inside, a blend line where the flow is and far bank options too, peg 15 at the end of the stretch gives you that 'no one beneath you advantage' and goes into another bend giving you a few more fishy options, great piece of water to fish !
Directions & Parking
From Stratford take the Luddington road CV37 9SE and turn into the racecourse entrance, don't go into the racecourse itself, there is a track on the right hand side of the entrance referred to locally as muddy lane, this track will take you to another 5 bar gate and then onto the meadow, Enter the code into the lock on the gate contained in your membership book and you can drive down to the waters edge, stay to the edge of the meadow and riverbank when drivin, please shut all gates behind you.

Non Fishy Facts
Stratford-upon-Avon Racecourse right next to the Stannells had its own railway station that closed in 1968 the old platform now makes up part of the Greenway walking & cycling route.

You can walk all the way to the Stannells from Stratford down the greenway walking / cycling route, as kids we walked over the narrow iron beams to get across it, these days you can walk next to the old bridge
There are no shops, pubs eateries in Luddington at this time but there is a general store half way up the Evesham Road and the nearest decent pub is called The Bell in Shottery.

If your into camping or caravans then most weekends and weekdays when the racing isn't on you can park your caravan or camp at the racecourse right next to the Stannells where there are 100 grass level pitches available for motorhomes, caravans and tents, resources include a heated toilet and shower block, electric Hook-up pitches, caravan and camping supplies etc.
